Of Birds, Books, & Healing: Springing Into a New Journey

Too long have when been apart, my dear friends! A long winter, sometimes rainy, mostly cold, kept my hands from reaching this keyboard, and honestly, my mind has been filled with work- school and the self, if I’m to be true!

Little Pond, however, has not rested! In fact, there are so many amazing changes to share. First, I rewrote Little Pond Stories, A Visitor. There are many reasons why, some personal, others not (you ask, I’ll share:). But I will say here that I did so out of a need to retell a story that invited the READER more. Therefore, we say goodbye to the original Daisy as character version published in May 2020. I’m happy to report we’ve published this new version under out very own Little Pond Stories, LLC. It’s non-fiction and inspires the reader to write as well!

Onto OTHER great things!

SPRING!

A quick Spring break trip to Audubon made our hearts skip when we walked towards a boardwalk, looked skyward, and saw a beautiful pair of osprey! How exciting:) While we think about how our planet is ever changing, we realize how lucky we are for living in New England.

Gratitude comes to mind as we ponder what song birds have arrived each day, who is making a nest where, and what waterfowl will decide to return to the pond. As for now, a pair of mallards have stuck around, but our geese merely did a quick drop in for a few days.

They, too, are saddened by the landscape of an exposed beaver lodge, endless mud, and a puddle of a pond. Not feeling secure enough to raise their family and using the lodge as a nest, they’ve moved next door.

In reality, we hope our beavers will return once the water is low enough for them to work with the broken dam. No one ever “wants” to lose, especially when an entire ecosystem depends on two amazing, and often misunderstood, creatures. Our birds and fish, frogs and newts, and so many more delicate animals rely upon this Little Pond as do we. We love the nature it brings and cannot wait to celebrate the day when the dam is restored.

Until then, we look above us and around. We see and hear our birds friends and the peepers at night, buds upon the trees that change each and every moment, and so much more.

Gratitude is powerful- it lifts us up because we know better days are ahead. Yes, we’ve had loss here, too much to count the past six months, yet we are here. We are here to feel the sunshine on our faces, to hear those whispers of a new spring, to see the wings of birds slide in and out of trees, to taste the sweetness of flowers, to smell the first cut of grass…. Yes, there has been loss, but all new journeys begin that way.
